The first UNESCO Chair in Cyprus was founded in 2005 at the University of Nicosia with the theme: “Cultural Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue for a Culture of Peace”.
The objective of the Chair is to promote a number of diverse activities in the fields of education, research, information and documentation in the sector of cultural diversity and cultural dialogue for a culture of peace, at the local and regional level.
Through a variety of activities, events, collaborations and international meetings, the UNESCO Chair at the University of Nicosia systematically works for the promotion of cultural diversity, the encouragement of intercultural dialogue and the promotion of a culture of peace.
The Director of the Chair is the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Nicosia, Professor Panayiotis Angelides.
