The UNESCO Chair for Governance and Social Responsibility in Sport was established in 2022 at UCLan Cyprus University.
The aim of the Chair is to promote an integrated system of research, education, training and information activities, in order to mobilise the wider sports movement to upgrade the quality of governance practices as well as to adopt socially responsible programs and interventions in the field of sports.
In this context, UCLan Cyprus University aspires to function as a center of excellence, in order to achieve local awareness and information on the subject of good governance in sports, with the ultimate goal of its continuous implementation, as well as to highlight the necessity of having socially responsible sports organisations/organisers. One goal of UCLan Cyprus University, therefore, is to constitute a dynamic field of partnership and cooperation between chairs, networks and working groups, aiming on achieving - within the wider sports ecosystem - four of the 17 sustainable development goals of the "Agenda 2030": "Quality education", "Gender equality", "Peace, justice and strong institutions" and "Partnerships for the goals".
Dr Christos Anagnostopoulos, Assistant Professor of Sports Management and Dr Efstathios Christodoulidis, Head of the BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Science program are responsible for the management of the Chair.
