Brief description:
The art of weaving has a long tradition in Cyprus. The trademark of Lefkoniko are the Woven Fabrics that the women weaved. This art flourished mainly from the late 19th century until the relocation of the inhabitants of Lefkoniko due to the Turkish invasion. The Woven Fabrics of Lefkoniko have large stripes, “pittes”, of blue and red, which alternate with smaller stripes of various colours, white, yellow, orange, brown, green, depending on the weaver’s taste and aesthetics. Multitude of colour is the main feature of these woven fabrics.
