European Archaeology Days 2022

08 June 2022

The Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO announces the organisation of the European Archaeology Days (17-19 June 2022) for the first time in Cyprus. The initiative first started in France in 2013, by the French Ministry of Culture, under the coordination of the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP). In 2020 it was expanded at European level and this year more than 46 Member states of the Council of Europe participate with events and activities. These three days will be used to raise awareness and familiarize European audiences with all aspects of archaeology. A range of original and festive events will be organized, to allow families, schools, students, history enthusiasts or the merely curious to discover their archaeological heritage.

In this context, guided tours, educational activities, lectures and other events will take place in Museums and Archaeological Sites. More precisely, the participating organisations are: Department of Antiquities, Deputy Ministry of Tourism, ICOMOS Cyprus, The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, the A.G. Leventis Gallery, the Kallinikeion Municipal Museum of Athienou, the Cyprus Institute, the Association of Cypriot Archaeologists, and the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation. The coordination of the programme was assumed by the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO.
